Yesterday was a memorable day for the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) and the national sailing community. For the first time in its almost 100 years of history, the federation was welcomed to the Quirinale by the Italian President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, proving the importance and value that the sport represents for the country.
The meeting opened with a speech by CONI President Giovanni Malagò, who highlighted that sailing is a sport of excellence in Italy, which combines extraordinary results with values of inclusiveness, respect, and sustainability.
The delegation of athletes attending included Caterina Banti and Marta Maggetti, gold medallists at the recent Paris Olympics, Max Sirena and the entire Luna Rossa youth team, winners of the Youth America's Cup and the Women's America's Cup. Among them was YCCS athlete Federico Colaninno, a member of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli youth team. A delegation of young sailors was also present, including Federico Pilloni, another YCCS athlete from the Young Azzurra programme, winner of the title of Youth and Junior World Champion in the iQFOiL Class in 2024.
The YCCS congratulates the FIV and all the attendees on this significant event, and takes great pride in its athletes for representing the Club on such a memorable occasion.
