The YCCS expresses its deepest sympathy to the family of Matteo Auguadro, a professional sailor who died tragically in an accident in the Alps on Sunday 12th January 2025. Matteo, 48, was an internationally recognised bowman, and well known in the sailing community.
After racing in the 32nd America's Cup in Valencia, in 2008-2009 he was the bowman on the YCCS Azzurra team that took part in the Louis Vuitton Trophy circuit on America's Cup Class boats.
Matteo’s beaming smile was a familiar sight on the quays of Porto Cervo. We saw him at the bow of the most competitive maxi yachts, as well as TP52s, RC44s, ClubSwan 50s and many other sailing classes.
A passionate sportsman, he would often cycle for miles on his bike every morning before jumping on board to race. He loved the sea, as well as Lake Maggiore, where he was born, and the mountains. Most of all, he loved his family, his wife Rachele and his two daughters, along with his parents who instilled in him a passion for sailing.
