Porto Cervo, 4 August 2024. The YCCS Members Championship, a traditional event dedicated to the YCCS members, took place this morning and saw the victory of Ashanti team of Klaus Otto Kunnemeyer, who sailed with his son and daughter. Giovanni Lombardi Stronati's LS Team earned the second step of the podium, followed by Luca Locatelli in third place.
The teams participating in the event met at 10:00AM in Piazza Azzurra for the briefing before heading out to the regatta course, located in front of Porto Cervo, for the first race’s warning signal at 11:00AM. A total of three races were completed in Mistral winds between 8 and 10 knots.
The event, as always, was characterized by a friendly yet competitive spirit and saw various teams alternate in the top positions. The on-the-water “battle” between Ashanti and LS Team was especially heated, right up to the final race. With two victories out of three, Ashanti captured the victory of the 2024 YCCS Members Championship ahead of Giovanni Lombardi Stronati's team by just one point. Luca Locatelli's team finished third thanks to consistent placements (3-2-4). Crews helmed by Stefano Lelli, winner of the 2022 edition of the Members Championship, and Achille Onorato also took part in the event.
At the conclusion of the event an awards ceremony was held at the YCCS clubhouse, and the winner was also awarded with an inReach Mini 2 by Technical partner Garmin Marine. The newly elected YCCS Commodore Andrea Recordati was present both at the awards ceremony and at the races at sea.
Upcoming events that the YCCS will support include the Trofeo Formenton (August 20th) and the Palermo-Porto Cervo-Montecarlo (August 20-25).
