Andrea De Marinis, part of the team on board Azzurra in both the 1983 and 1987 America’s Cup challenges, passed away on the night of 2nd January 2023. Born in Rome in 1956, he held the role of grinder with Azzurra, but was also involved with the on board electronics -  a new field at the time. He was often to be seen on regatta courses, winning the ORC World Championship in 2008 and, more recently, the 12 Metre Class Worlds aboard Patrizio Bertelli’s Nalaya. He was also a respected videomaker.

The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda wishes to express our deepest sympathies to his loved one and the members of the Azzurra team, together with whom he helped to popularise sailing in Italy.
