Ange Transparent is in the lead with two wins in three races
Porto Cervo, July 21, 2017. Today was the first day of racing at the traditional Coppa Europa Smeralda 888, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. These One Designs were created by the naval architect German Frers on commission by the YCCS, and will be racing from today until Sunday, July 23rd.
Registration ended this morning and was followed by the official Briefing at the YCCS clubhouse in Porto Cervo. Francesco Vauban’s GSD, Achille Onorato’s Mascalzone Latino and Valter Pizzoli’s Ange Transparent III were amongst the teams participating while Paolo Rotelli’s Black Star and Timifey Sukhotin’s Beda were returning.
The first day saw the teams competing in three windward/leeward races in southeasterly winds at 20 to 22 knots. Ange Transparent III with Skipper Andrea Zaoli placed first in two of the three races and is currently in the lead. Beda with Skipper Francois Benac placed 1-2-3 today and is followed by Mascalzone Latino with Skipper Marco Savelli who got two third place finishes and one second today.
After the day’s racing the teams got ready for the Gala Dinner at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda clubhouse. There are still two full days of racing scheduled in this event and tomorrow’s first race is scheduled to start at 11.30. Breezes are forecast to be light.
