The final of the SSL Gold Cup, the first edition of the world sailing championship for national teams, concluded on Sunday 3 December in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. The Italian team - with YCCS member Federico Michetti in the role of trimmer – passed the elimination rounds to qualify for the final. The regatta drew to a close after a total of 23 days of racing and 64 races held, with the Italian crew taking second place behind Hungary.
Another very important event in the world of sailing also took place over the weekend as the preliminary regattas for the 37th America's Cup were held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Among those called up by the Luna Rossa team for the first time, in the role of trimmer, was YCCS sporting member Federico Colaninno. "It was a fantastic experience," said the twenty-four year old, a former flight controller on the Young Azzurra foiling campaign. The guys did great and you don’t change a winning team. This time around I watched the races from the RIB as a reserve, but it was definitely a very productive adventure that will serve me well in the future."
