Monaco, 2 November 2016. Early this morning Lloyd Thornburg's trimaran Phaedo3 slipped off the dock Yacht Club de Monaco to attempt a World Speed Sailing Record on the Monaco to Porto Cervo Wally Course. They are setting off on the front of a weather system with calm seas. The majority of the wind will be in the first couple of hours up to about 28 knots, settling to 17 knots nearer Sardinia. they hope to average a speed of 24 knots on the run into Porto Cervo and arrive in the late afternoon. The previous record was set by the monohull Esimit Europa with a time of 10h 13m 42s.
