Porto Cervo, Italy. 25th June 2015. The Coppa Europa Smeralda 888, organized since 2001 by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and valid as an official leg of the class’ annual circuit, will take place from 26th to 28th June 2015. Nine Smeralda 888 one-design boats will be competing on the waters of the Costa Smeralda this weekend flying the colours of the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM), Yacht Club Lignano (YCL) and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS).

Registrations opened this morning and some teams took the chance to practice on board the sloops today prior to the start of racing tomorrow, Friday 26th June at 2.30 p.m. The nine competing teams, each composed of five crew members, will take part in three days of fleet racing.

Representatives of the Yacht Club de Monaco include Achille Onorato’s Mascalzone Latino and Botta Dritta with Adalberto Miani at the helm – respectively the second and third placed teams in last year’s competition. Vittorio Codecasa with his Giada and Stefano Lelli with his Jonathan II, on the other hand, will be intent on bringing victory to the YCCS for the first time since the 2012 edition of the Coppa Europa.

Each year this regatta is characterized by an atmosphere of friendly competition and teams will have plenty of opportunities to relax and socialize ashore beginning with tomorrow’s Welcome Brunch following the morning technical briefing and including a dinner at the YCCS Clubhouse and Sunday’s final prize giving at the Sports Centre.
