Porto Cervo, 31st May 2023. The YCCS Clean Beach Day took place this morning at Romazzino beach, in Costa Smeralda. The event was sponsored by the Municipality of Arzachena and supported by the Consorzio Costa Smeralda along with the One Ocean Foundation.
The event involved over 140 students from the primary schools of Arzachena, Cannigione and Abbiadori alongside volunteers, in a morning dedicated to environmental sustainability and the preservation of the marine environment. Welcoming all who took part were the Secretary General of the YCCS, Edoardo Recchi, the Mayor of Arzachena, Roberto Ragnedda, together with Michele Occhioni, Delegate for the Environment and Education, and Massimo Marcialis, Director General of the Consorzio Costa Smeralda.
The event, which ended early due to adverse weather conditions, saw the participants attend an introductory lesson given by marine biologist Mattia Leone, who illustrated the main problems related to pollution from micro and macro plastics. The youngsters taking part were then divided into groups and set out to scour the beach for micro and macro plastics.
During the event, the names of three of the young students were also drawn as winners of a complimentary sailing course at the YCCS Sailing School.
YCCS Secretary General Edoardo Recchi commented: "Once again this year we have organised the YCCS Clean Beach Day, on behalf of the YCCS I would like to thank all the schools that took part, the Mayor of Arzachena, Roberto Ragnedda, and the President of the Costa Smeralda Consortium, Massimo Marcialis here with us for the event. This day is particularly important to us and every year we strive to promote respect for the environment among the upcoming generations."
