Yesterday, August 28th, was the final day of the ILCA 7 Under 21 World Championship, held in Vilamoura, Portugal, and Cesare Barabino, a member of the Young Azzurra sport programme, was among the participants.

The World Championship was held in unstable weather conditions with light breeze. The large and highly competitive fleet of 158 ILCA 7s managed to complete just seven races over the six days of the event. 

Cesare Barabino finished in the top 20 at the event, placing 17th overall.

Cesare Barabino, Young Azzurra athlete: "This championship has been characterised by long waits, the light air conditions severely limited the competition. In some races we had to sail in very light breezes, almost at the limit, managing to complete only seven races out of the twelve scheduled, including just two finals, meaning a direct competition between the top 80 in the fleet. I finished in 17th place, certainly a good placement, but a result I'd say was far from meeting my expectations and matching up to the effort that went into preparing for this World Championship.

It has definitely been an invaluable experience, and I can take home various ideas to train better. Over the coming days I'll be preparing the training programme for the season finale with the Italian Olympic Classes Championship first, in early November, and then the following week, the European Championship in Hyères, France."
